I am a current VZW Blackberry Tour customer. I'm currently eligible to upgrade to iPhone 4 (Verizon has gone well out of its way to make me aware of this). My patience has truly been tested, as I've been assuming all along that iPhone 5 would be coming out in June.
So what the hell do I do now? I'm not waiting until 2012.
Easy, get the iPhone 4 now.
It's not Apple's fault that you assumed there would be a new product. If you like the iPhone then just get it now. By the time 2012 rolls around you will be eligible for another upgrade and you can get the newest one then too if you must have it.

I am also looking forward to iPhone 5 because I want one that is compatible with T-Mobile's frequencies. However, I am perfectly happy with my 3GS until that happens, even if I have to wait a little bit.
Actually, I see that as an upside to a degree, because assuming my 3GS holds out (and short of dropping it on accident I have no reason to believe that it won't) that gives me a bit of extra time to save some money and maybe buy the iPhone 5 contract-free and unlocked (maybe from Canada...) so I can just use it right away on T-Mobile.
And if T-Mobile officially gets it (who knows with the new developments in AT&T and T-Mobile merging) and I can buy it subsidized I will then just have an extra $400-$500 saved up that I can put toward another Apple product down the road...

My thoughts exactly. Our school district (ISD 482) just bought 1,465 iPads for its students, and I can see us getting really mad if Apple were to release a new iPad 6 mos. later.
If the iPad 2 wasn't what you needed, why not wait?

If your in snow leopard thats all it will show. you must be on the lion wallpaper for it to show 3200x2000, anyway no problem im happy to help.
In Lion (developer here), on the latest build. Wonder why. I was able to see 1024x1024 in Launchpad.icns in its resources folder, but other Lion native app's only list 512x512. Oh well, no bigger. Interesting news though� and thanks again mate. :)

The power supply is on top like the rumor sites said it would be. This seems like a stupid design decision to me. The power cord will hang over everything else. They probably did it out of necessity, but my dual G5 is still prettier.
Also, with the move to intel, can I use the PC version of the same card?

You can update hardware silently on a different day and still dedicate time to the two major OSes. I don't see the big deal. The MacBook Pros got Quad Core/Thunderbolt treatment but there was only a press release. Shame the iPhone cycle will be slightly extended this year though but oh well.

I'd be happy if it was the same enclosure with a Merom CPU and an upgraded GPU - ATI X1800 or nVidia 7700 would be nice.
A longer-life battery would be nice but I can't see it happening due to weight.
I really don't understand the obsession with the magnetic latch.
At most it would have the yet to be released Mobility X1700 or currently available Geforce GO7600.
There is simply not enough room for either a Mobility X1800 or Geforce GO7800 (was GO7700, meant 7800) chip in this 1" thick notebook. Stay in fairyland . . . why can't people be a bit realistic?

There's not a lot of venting on the back (nor ability to install a fan in push mode), so it's likely as a means of moving additional heat out of the PCIe zone, and pull it out through the PSU (not as hot when mixed with cool air drawn in around from the front of the case past the ODD's, so it shouldn't be hot enough to cause damage to the PSU).
That all makes sense, but again, the plate is without vents. And even if they would go through the whole plate (which they don't), the PSU itself is still sealed, so no way to get hot air from the back of the PCIe section. If it gets any air from that section through the small holes that are in the plate that separate the sections, it gets cold air from the PCIe fan since the PSU's fan sits in front of the unit in close proximity to the PCIe fan. (wow, even I don't understand what I just wrote... :rolleyes:).

Frankly, I don't buy engaget's report.. a "tech-unsavvy friend" sounds like complete BS. All the pros that would do something like that for apple would certainly be tech savvy, they have to now...

Yay let us all surrender our privacy to the cloud... Sometimes I feel like the only one that understands the long term implications cloud based computer has when we allow our content and log files on others' servers. Thankfully I know I'm not the only one though.

I'd rather not have all of my data on a massive public server, available to Apple, advertisers and any government agency at all times. Those claiming that "it's encrypted" are not fully appreciating the security implications of not having control over the implementation of said encryption. For example, SSL/HTTPS is "encrypted" as well, but since Certificate Authorities give signed master-key certificates to all government intelligence and law enforcement agencies, it isn't technically 100% secure (despite mathematically unbreakable encryption).
Taking off the tin-foil hat and simply thinking about economics: I still don't understand how cloud computing is actually going to become a dominant market force. There are now only 3 wireless providers in the US, forming a tight oligopoly, and all of them are incredibly stingy with data caps and limitations. Moreover, there are only a handful of unique internet providers in the US and all are cutting client bandwidth, raising prices and instituting throttling or monthly data caps. So it would seem that big software companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google are pushing the idea of streaming everything; but internet providers only want to supply bandwidth for their own cable TV services. Something just doesn't add up. How is one supposed to have no local storage and just stream music and video when their wireless connection only allows for 2GB/month and their home ISP throttles everything other than its own cable TV service?

You own the piece of hardware, but you only have a license that gives you the right to use the software that is required to operate the hardware.
The catch, is unlike computers - the hardware in many new devices (phones, routers, TVs, etc), is highly proprietary and the manufacturers of the chips refuse to release any white papers/information sheets on how to program for the chip.
In other words, you couldn't port Linux to the iPhone if you wanted to. Apple could pull a page out of Motorola's book and make a chip that bricks itself in the face of unsigned, 3rd party hardware.
Look at the depths Sony is going to in order to keep people from Linux on the PS3 now.
In a sense, you really DON'T own the hardware in these situations. Frankly, I'm surprised Apple even bothers to sell iPhones, they should just put them out on 2 year leases and then claim the phone back at the end.
