I think Matte would be good, but you can just go buy a film and apply it quite easily so thats not a show stopper for me, however I have read it can lose some clarity so a factory applied option would be better.

And now you have two additional layers for light from the display to pass through — the arbitrary sheet of glass AND the diffusing film. It's not a real solution.

If I had to guess, I'd say there are three likely reasons Apple went all out gloss:

    1. Impressive in-store displays. Colours look punchier when compared to a matte display, and that appeals to many buyers evidently.

    2. The new black-bordered aesthetics made popular by the iPhone, iPod touch and now the iPad. This gives Apple's modern product line a look of consistency. Again, it's about appearances, not practicalities.

    3. So they can talk about recyclable materials like aluminium and yep… glass. But again, it's all about appearances. Anyone really serious about sustainable living knows that the first, and arguably most important, of the three R's is REDUCE. The glass may be essential on a touch screen device, but it is completely unnecessary on a desktop or laptop display.

    There should be no refunds.

It's not fair to the developer when users are irresponsible.

This is like the risk of using the 1-Click Ordering feature at amazon.com.

    This is 1-Click from Amazon.com ;)

Nice results especially as the street was forcasting around 50cents.

Looking forward, 2007 is likely to be one of the most exciting new product years in Apples history.

Hahahaha, great attempt -aggie-! Now I'm sure you're a WW!! I've suspected alllll along, and now you pull this faux Seer out of the same hat you pull your bunnies from. -aggie-.

You might have pulled the (werewolf) wool over the eyes of the others, but you are NOT fooling me! YOU are the werewolf, I'm simply your red herring.

    What a sad post.

All these VMWare features are really nice. Then again I bought Parallels for $29 + tax after rebate. Give me more features Parallels! :D

Actually, the irony is that the people who are looking at you and judging you based on your phone are the snobs.

thats true... whats with people judging others by the phones they use, or the products they love... thats worst than judging a book by its cover...

I can't believe people watch this show. I tried watching it to see what the fuss is all about.....it seems like such a formulaic cheesy sitcom.

I love Bill Maher's take on the whole thing:

It's actually a very Apple thing to do. Apple has always been about making a totally integrated, complete end-to-end computing environment and Apple has also always been dedicated to transforming things that had been difficult for non-techies to do into some so simple and effective that even advanced technical users decide it's the best method. This is probably not the first time an option to buy hardware has been built into software, but just like Time Machine is revolutionary because it's the first SIMPLE file-by-file backup system and not because it's the first backup system ever, so too this "Buy Battery" button is revolutionary because of how simple and integrated it is.

I'm hardly an Apple apologist, I complain quite loudly when they do things that are lame. But I think this is a very Apple thing to do and a feature that isn't just a built in advertisement. If I had an OS X button to buy a new battery when I wanted one, rather than tracking down the battery model number I needed and having to worry about who to buy from and bothering with technical details, I'd definitely appreciate being able to just click that button.

Making the entire computer experience simple, easy and fun is what Apple has always been about, and this is a natural continuation of those ideals. In fact, I hope they expand this functionality to include upgrading ram and hard disks (as long as they don't go overboard with the prices like in the b.t.o. options at the apple store).

Really this is a wonderful new breakthrough in Apple's quest for computing easiness.
I almost agree with you. I think it is helpful for Apple to provide an easy link for users who have a bad battery and need to buy another "replacement" battery; however, when Apple is trying to sell you a "spare" battery, something you really don't need, they seem like the salesmen knocking on your door trying to sell you a $1400 vacuum.

I love the way the light models the mountain, it really 'pops'.
This scene looks familiar, albeit more green than last time ;)
Great to see you shooting again, I always enjoy what you share here.

Another beautiful photo, Reef. Love the colours and look of your pics.

Wow, I haven't been anywhere but here for a really long time, I'm starting to solidify I think. I spent some time in Europe long before the wall came down, but then again the Huns were still roaming around - or was that dinosaurs...

We'll give ya' a while to get set up before we set the hounds on ya' :D In the mean time maybe you have a calculator or abacus you can use in your spare time, ya' know, foldingbyhand I think it's called :p

    Cheers and welcome back!

I appreciate the welcome back! The Navy has had me all over the world this last decade! I'm going to Norfolk, Va for my last couple of years before I retire. Hopefully my wife will have her college education completed by then and I can stay home and play "Mr. Mom"........and goof around with Blender and the farm full time (oh, and tinker with my cars too:D)!!

Nope, the thing you haven't understood is that I thought it was a Clever idea, as right after, the attackers left. Nothing "crappy" about acknowledging something which saved her from further sufferance. Of course, you interpreted my post as being insincere and cold, but it was merely an observation and never did I have the intention to be hurtful.

No, but he assumed your intention was hurtful

This means you can't use the *same* installation of Vista Home inside a virtualization technology on the "licensed device".
This is incorrect. The license says nothing at all about the "same installation" or any such nonsense. If that's what they meant, that's what they would have written.

The clause is there so that MS can lean on companies that want to buy bargain basement Windows and run multiple instances of it under Linux. They want customers to pony up for the expensive version if they want to do that at all.

This isn't the type of clause that would make sense for them to try to audit personal users, too much cost for too little revenue. Business users really do need to avoid the home versions if they want to run virtually.

... was that what you were after?

No, that's the opposite of what I was after, that's the bug it has now. Sigh, this is exactly what I predicted, they added a bunch of new features but haven't fixed any of the major usability bugs and flaws it already has. Why does apple show iCal such contempt?

Might get this, might not. Don't do contracts so it would be a simple case of buying and selling. Something most people I know do. You lot (Americans) should start doing the same and stop being beholden to 24 month contracts.

The point, though, is that the Sandy Bridge MacBook Air will have a much better CPU, but a worse GPU unless Apple does something surprising.

Yeah ! Going with some brand new AMD's Llano APU. :D

That is why iPhone (4) sales will remain close to zero until the iPhone 5 introduction. A white iPhone 4 will not change that very much.

LOL. I think sales won't be anywhere "close to zero" for the remaining months. Not everyone in the world is monitoring macrumours website. ;)

Millions of people don't even know a new revision is due soon, not to mention people who's contract expires and can't wait without a new handset for 3-5 months. Sales will continue just fine.

but i won't ask any clarification on the rules so the usual suspect can keep complaining about being ambushed.

i am on vacation with family, therefore there will be little posting till next tuesday (not sure when the game will start). i'll make sure to at least vote.

yeah i know, which stinks, but at least windows 7 is a little better.

here's the problem for me and the bigadv units: i can't really use the computer for anything else. but with the gpus going, i can still use the system.

gpu3 will be good, but still, apple doesn't allow for all the video cards though

At least with my mac pro it is quite usable while running bigadv units, it doesn't feel slow at all and the wu doesn't slow down very much.

Are there gpu, pci-e, power connectors inside the mac pro? I forgot to look the last time I had mine open.

I will sell my 2 copies of win 7, and go back to linux, when gpu3 is up and running, it would be nice not to have to buy another copy right now but I don't want to wait for gpu3, which could be weeks or months before it is ready. I guess it is out for alpha testing, I don't think I'll bother until it's past the beta stage.
